The Crestline Village Council met Monday night to tie up loose ends for the end of the year finances, update the codified ordinance, as well as have a second reading on the amended tax ordinance.
Originally in its second reading the Crestline Village Council returned to Ordinance 3035 and passed it as an emergency. The ordinance is an amendment to the 2015 appropriations ordinance for the designated accounts in order to maintain funded balances.
Council also passed with emergency an ordinance to update village laws to match the Ohio Revised Code.
A second reading of ordinance 3136 was held. If passed at the third reading the ordinance will comprehensively amend the village income tax ordinance in accordance with H.B. 5. The ordinance sets up a Chapter 182, Municipal Income Tax and maintains Chapter 181 of the Crestline Codified Ordinances for applicable levy, administration, and collection of income tax prior to January 1, 2016. If passed at the third reading the new Municipal Income Tax will take effect on January 1, 2016.
In his report to Village Council Mayor David Sharrock apologized to council member Gene Toy about comments he had made to the council member at the previous meeting. Toy accepted Mayor Sharrock’s apology.
Administrator Marc Milliron reported that the village auction had raised $11,415. Milliron also noted that leaf collection is ongoing with about a third of the town completed. Milliron also told council that a company is looking at purchasing the old Jolly Pirate location.
When council member Tina Schwartz asked Milliron which company was looking into purchasing the building Milliron said that it was Hempy Water that was looking into it.
Police Chief Joseph Butler reported that there have been complaints of a scam where a phone caller is promising a $1.2 million check.
“If it sounds too good to be true it probably is,” Butler said.
Council member Clayton Herold said that the village’s Santa Parade will take place on Sunday, Nov. 29, and that the Memory Tree Lighting will take place on Dec. 10.
Sharrock noted that several months back a Facebook page was created to recognize the city employees. Sharrock said city employees need to be cautious on how they present themselves on social media websites.
Crestline Mayor-elect Gloria McDonald spoke up after Sharrock had finished, noting issues that she had with Council President Herold as to how he had conducted his social media business during the mayoral race by openly campaigning for a candidate, as well as making disparaging remarks about her.
Harold responded by saying that he had congratulated her when she had won the mayor’s seat, however McDonald rejected the congratulations.
“I will have trouble when you open your mouth and not seeing puppet strings,” McDonald said.
