The Crestline Board of Education approved the 2016-17 preschool calendar and handbook which includes a switch from four half days a week to five. Superintendent Noreen Mullins explained that studies have shown the advantages the extra day provides particularly with lower-income children.
Board member Jim Glauer hesitated before voting for the measure saying that he had “struggled with this decision a long time, but approved it as it was put together by the teachers.”
The switch may not be permanent, however. The program will be monitored during the first semester to determine if the preschool classes should remain the same or if it would make a return to fewer days after the holiday break.
