The Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Commission will cause an election of Supervisors of the Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District to be held in accordance with Chapter 1515 of the Ohio Revised Code.
Residents or landowners, firms, and corporations that own land or occupy land in Crawford County and are 18 years of age and older may vote for Supervisor. A non-resident landowner, firm, or corporation must provide an affidavit of eligibility, which includes designation of a voting representative, prior to casting a ballot.
There are three ways an eligible voter can cast a ballot: (1) at the annual meeting, which will take place September 10, 2013 at 5:30-6:45 pm; (2) at the SWCD office 7:30 am – 4:00 pm on September 10, 2013; or (3) vote absentee now through September 10th by requesting the proper absentee request forms from the SWCD office at the Crawford SWCD, 3111 State Route 98, Bucyrus OH 44820 phone 419-562-8280.
Two (2) Supervisors will be elected. The nominees are: Nathan Brause, Tom Miller and Cheryl Wagner.
Nathan Brause and his wife Carrie have three children. They own and operate a farm in Sulphur Springs. They grow corn, soybeans and hay. Nathan has enjoyed the soil and water board position in the past and is running again because “protecting our natural resources and being a good steward of the land has been an important part of my work. I am always open to suggestions or comments on how to make it better.” Nathan has implemented different conservation practices including grass waterways, grass filter strips, quail buffers, strip-till corn, cover crops, subsurface drainage, and tree windbreaks. He enjoys outdoor activities with his family and friends; and is active in his church.

Tom Miller and his wife Nadine have 2 children and reside in Dallas Township. He is running again for supervisor because he “feels conservation is a very important issue nationwide and he enjoys being a part of it.” Tom has implemented conservation practices in his farming operation, including buffer strips, sod waterways, variable rate nutrient applications, grid soil sampling, cover crops, windbreaks, no-till cropping, and drainage control structures. Tom is a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Cheryl Wagner and her husband Tom reside in Whetstone Township. They have two children. Cheryl is a homemaker and Whetstone Township fiscal officer. Cheryl is running for the board of supervisors because she feels “stewardship of our natural resources, especially streams and rivers is very important.” Their best management conservation practices on their farm include sod waterways, nutrient management and variable rate applied nutrients. She is active with Bucyrus United Methodist Church and family activities.
