BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—As temperatures rise and daylight lingers, the Crawford Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) has announced the return of its annual tree and plant sale, an initiative designed to bolster local ecosystems and provide long-term financial benefits to property owners.

The district is offering a diverse selection of native hardwood and evergreen seedlings, as well as larger stock ranging from 3 to 4 feet in height. Conservation officials emphasize that planting native species is a critical step in maintaining the region’s environmental health.

“Trees can help reduce erosion and runoff from lawns and fields,” the district stated in its announcement, noting that an acre of trees can remove approximately 13 tons of dust and gases from the atmosphere annually through photosynthesis.

Beyond environmental impact, strategic planting can serve as a natural insulator for homeowners. When placed correctly, trees can significantly lower electric bills in the summer by providing shade and reduce heating costs in the winter by acting as windbreaks.

The sale also highlights the importance of supporting local biodiversity. Species such as the White Oak, which are currently dwindling across the nation, are available. These trees provide essential food and shelter for birds, insects, and other wildlife through the production of nuts, fruits, and foliage.

Orders are being accepted through April 23, or until inventory is exhausted. Due to limited supplies, the district encourages residents to place orders early.

Order forms are available at the Crawford SWCD office, located at 3111 SR 98 in Bucyrus, or online at crawfordswcd.org. For questions or inventory updates, residents can contact the office at 419-562-8280, ext. 3.
