CRAWFORD COUNTY—The Crawford Park District has announced a series of exciting programs to take place at Lowe-Volk Park throughout the weekend. From wild edibles to astronomy and animal habitats, there is something for everyone.

On Saturday, April 29th, at 2 pm, naturalist Chelsea will lead a program on wild edibles. Participants will learn about edible plants and fungi growing in local wild spaces, including those found in their own yards. The program will also feature opportunities to sample some of the best spring wild edibles. Attendees are advised to wear appropriate footwear for a walk through the woods.

Later that evening, at 8:30 pm, members of the Crawford Park Astronomy Club will share their knowledge and telescope skills with those interested in celestial sights. The targets for spring include the Winter Milky Way Arm, the Rosette Nebula, Bode’s Galaxy, Pinwheel Galaxy, Leo Triplet, and the Whirlpool Galaxy.

On Sunday, April 30th, at 1 pm, visitors are invited to participate in Feeding Day at Lowe-Volk Park Nature Center. Attendees can help prepare meals for the animals that reside in the park and watch them enjoy their food.

Later that afternoon, at 2:30 pm, Troop 4253 invites Brownies and Girl Scouts to learn about animal habitats. Participants will go on a hike looking for animals in their natural habitats, make observations, and recreate a habitat for an animal.

Finally, from May 1st to May 31st, visitors can take a leisurely stroll through Lowe-Volk Park while looking for flowers. Each flower will have a line of a poem to read, and those who complete the hike can collect a prize from the front desk of the Nature Center.

All of the events will take place at Lowe-Volk Park, located three miles north of US Route 30. For more information on other programs offered by the Crawford Park District, visit their website at www.crawfordpd.org or follow them on Facebook.
