CRESTLINE—A groundbreaking ceremony was held by the Crawford Park District immediately following the district’s monthly meeting on Thursday for the Sandusky Headwaters Nutrient Reduction project.

The project is funded through the H2Ohio project that was passed by the Ohio General Assembly in 2019. One of the goals of H2Ohio is to reduce nutrient loads that enter Lake Erie, which contributes to harmful algal blooms that severely impact water quality for the lake and surrounding communities.

The Crawford Park District’s project will include the creation of three acres of wetlands and the installment of native pollinator-friendly plants. Located along the headwaters of the Sandusky River, this project will be part of the first line of defense in reducing nutrients before they enter our Great Lake.

The Crawford Park District has also announced that Sears Woods State Nature Preserve will be closed on Nov. 21 for a controlled deer hunt sponsored by The Division of Natural Areas and Preserves and the park district. The hunt is only open to previously selected hunters. For more information or questions, call the Crawford Park District at 419-683-9000.
