It was a wet and wild time at Lowe-Volk Park Saturday, not due to the rains that came through the area, but for the Crawford Park District’s annual Water Carnival.

Water Carnival 2016 (5)Beginning at 11 a.m. and running until 2 p.m., the Water Carnival had numerous stations for families to learn about, as well as have fun with a little hydrogen dioxide.  Crawford Park District Director Bill Fisher explained what all was taking place at the Water Carnival.

“It is all wet and wild you know, hopefully kids are out in nature and enjoying learning a little bit of our water resource, but most importantly having fun,” Fisher said. “We have a repeat appearance of our walking ball on the water, that is always popular, and new this year is the canoe. We have the bicycle on the pond. The Jefferson Township Fire Department is here, as always, but they are giving them more upfront time, the kids get to go out with them and hold that hose and play water ball.”

While the Wicked Witch of the West and her sister didn’t make an appearance at the Water Carnival for obvious reasons, many families turned out to cool off, have fun, and enjoy the water. Enjoying the day with her family, Claire Dean explained what encouraged them to come out to the Water Carnival.

“We like this park and they always have fun stuff going on, so we came out to try and enjoy the activities,” Dean said.

Carson Teynor, who attended the Water Carnival with his aunt, uncle, brother, and mom, explained what his favorite part of the carnival was.

“I enjoyed the canoe bike, because it was fun,” Teynor said.

Working as a volunteer for part of the day was Audra Meadows, Meadows who was at the turtle station explained that this was her first time volunteering for the event.

“I started volunteering out here, this is my first time,” Meadows said. “I like turtles, so I am helping out here.”

Attending the Water Carnival for the first time after her grandpa told her that an event was going on; Jordan Keller explained that she wasn’t expecting a water carnival.

“Well my grandpa brought us, because he said there was something going on, but didn’t say it was going to be the Water Carnival. This is my first time attending it, but not my first time out to Lowe-Volk.”

“The firefighter water ball game has been my favorite so far. I’ve done that twice,” Keller added. “I did the canoe bike, the bubble thing, the water balloon catapult thing. It has been fun. I love it, it is the perfect temperature out, and it is just great.”

Helping provide much of the water for a few of the activities was the Jefferson Township Fire Department. Fire Fighter Rick Cochran explained that the fire department is proud to work with the Crawford Park District.

“We are proud to be part of this event every year bringing hydration to the parks, and the kids,” Cochran said. “It is a great event and educational too.”
