CRESTLINE, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Crawford Park District is inviting the community to explore the wonders of the winter season through a series of interactive programs at Lowe-Volk Park this January. From wildlife feeding to celestial viewings, the upcoming schedule offers educational opportunities for all ages.
The series begins with Feeding Day on Monday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m. Visitors can join Naturalist Lisa at the Lowe-Volk Park Nature Center to assist in feeding the district’s wildlife ambassadors. Participants will learn about the varied diets of local species, which include everything from leafy greens and vegetables to mice and worms.

For the youngest nature enthusiasts, the Little Explorers program will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 5:30 p.m. Aimed at children ages 0-5, this session focuses on “Winter Wonders.” Naturalists will lead activities designed to stimulate sensory development and fine motor skills as families search for snow, ice, and frost. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather, as a portion of the program will take place outdoors.

On Saturday, Jan. 24, the district will host two distinct events. At 2 p.m., a Cocoon Hike will take explorers through the park’s trails to search for the hidden pupae of butterflies and moths waiting for spring. Later that evening, at 6:30 p.m., the Crawford Park Astronomy Club will host a public viewing of the night sky. If conditions are clear, attendees can view winter targets such as Saturn, the Andromeda Galaxy, and the Crab Nebula through telescopes. In the event of overcast skies, an indoor program will be held at the Nature Center.

Lowe-Volk Park is located at 2401 State Route 598. For more information on these and other programs, visit crawfordpd.org or follow the Crawford Park District on Facebook.
