CRESTLINE, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Crawford Park District is inviting the community to explore the wonders of the natural world this month through a series of interactive outdoor and educational programs at Lowe-Volk Park.

The series begins Saturday, Jan. 24, with a Cocoon Hike at 2 p.m. While many insects are dormant during the winter, naturalists will lead a guided trek to locate pupae and other hidden signs of insect life.

Later that evening, the Crawford Park Astronomy Club will host a public viewing of the winter sky starting at 6:30 p.m. Highlights for the session include views of Saturn, the Andromeda Galaxy and the Crab Nebula. In the event of poor weather, an alternative program will be held inside the Lowe-Volk Park Nature Center.

Closing out the month on Thursday, Jan. 29, the district will host Nature Tic-Tac-Toe at 5:30 p.m. Led by Ms. Joy, the family-friendly workshop allows participants to create their own game boards using “tree cookies”—cross-sections of tree trunks—and natural materials. Registration is required for the craft program by calling 419-683-9000.

Lowe-Volk Park is located at 2401 State Route 598. For more information, residents can visit the district’s website at crawfordparkdistrict.org.
