CRAWFORD COUNTY, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Crawford Park District is gearing up for a series of engaging events in early January, inviting community members of all ages to participate.

Audubon Christmas Bird Count

On Saturday, January 4, at 7:30 a.m., bird enthusiasts are encouraged to join the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count at Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 State Route 598. This citizen science project aims to gather data on bird populations. Volunteers can participate in the field or count birds at their backyard feeders. Interested individuals should contact the Crawford Park District office at 419-683-9000.

Feeding Day

On Monday, January 6, at 5 p.m., join Naturalist Lisa at Lowe-Volk Park to help feed the animals residing in the Nature Center. Participants will have the opportunity to feed bugs, fruits, vegetables, and even mice or earthworms to the center’s snakes.

Little Explorers: Snow

The Little Explorers program, designed for children ages 0-5, will take place on Tuesday, January 7, at 5 p.m. at Lowe-Volk Park. This month’s theme is snow, with activities aimed at stimulating infants’ senses and developing fine motor skills for toddlers and preschoolers. The program will be held both indoors and outdoors, weather permitting.

Face to Face: Lizards

On Wednesday, January 8, at 5 p.m., Naturalist Donald will introduce participants to the Nature Center’s lizards at Lowe-Volk Park. The event will feature Simon, a bearded dragon, and provide an opportunity to learn about Ohio’s native lizard species, the Common Five-lined Skink. Attendees will have the chance to see these fascinating creatures up close.

Snowman Hike

From Wednesday, January 1, to Thursday, January 30, visitors can enjoy a Snowman Hike at Lowe-Volk Park. Participants will search for laminated snowmen along the trail, each featuring a line of a poem. Those who complete the hike during office hours can stop by the Nature Center’s front desk to collect a prize.
