In just its second year, Crawford County Public Health nearly doubled its winners for the Food Safety Awards.

CCPH initiated its annual Food Safety Award program in 2013 to recognize local food establishments that exhibit exceptional efforts to prepare, serve, and sell safe food to the public.

“We feel really great about this,” said Steve Jozwiak, Environmental Health Director at Crawford County Public Health. “Especially since we increased nine since last year and 17 this year. It’s a pretty tough criteria for them to meet. There’s basically class three and class four facilities and there was 113 eligible and we had 17 that won. So that shows the criteria is pretty tough.”

The CCPH announced the following establishments as 2014 Food Safety Award winners:
• Bob Evans, Bucyrus
• Buckeye Central Schools
• Bucyrus Elementary
• Bucyrus High School
• Crawford County Council on Aging
• Crestline Child Care
• Crestline High School
• Daily Scoop
• Katering Kountry Style
• Kentucky Fried Chicken, Galion
• Little Athens Greek Restaurant
• Maplecrest
• McDonald’s, Crestline
• Taco Bell, Bucyrus
• WalMart
• Wynford Elementary School
• Wynford High School

Representatives from each facility received a plaque for their accomplishment. Nearly everyone said they appreciated being recognized for all their hard work.

The food licensing year runs from March 1 through Feb. 28 in the state of Ohio. CCPH will be continuing the program for the 2014 food facility licensing year.
