Yesterday may have been April Fools but it is certainly no joke that $1.2 million dollars is coming to Crawford County from the state capital budget. Gov. John Kasich signed the budget Monday after the State Senate signed off on House Bill 497.
The budget contains money for two projects in Bucyrus.
One is $357,000 for Schines Art Park which will go in the location of the old Bucyrus Theatre on South Sandusky Avenue.
“I would say that we are real close to getting that building torn down,” Bucyeus Mayor Roger Moore said.
The other project, The Crawford County Education Center, will receive $850,000. The project will be established in what was most recently the Crawford County Board of Elections Office on North Walnut Street. It will be an extension of North Central State College.
The total capital budget for 2015-2016 totals $2.4 billion and will be used for repairs, maintenance and construction of publicly owned businesses and infrastructure.
Elsewhere in surrounding counties, Morrow County is slated for $6 million for dam rehabilitation. Four projects in Marion County would receive $3.8 million. Those projects include work to the Harding Home and Palace Theatre. Four projects in Seneca County would get a total of $1.2 million and seven projects in Richland County would get $4.8 million. Projects in Richland County include work at North Central State Technical College, Ohio State’s Mansfield campus and Lahm Airport.
