The 2017 Crawford County Fair has lined up some entertainment for the youngsters as well as the young at heart with the approval of an animal act for the week of the fair at the Crawford County Fair Board meeting Wednesday night.
The Bengal Tiger Encounter will be at the fair from Monday through Saturday during the week of the fair. Two shows will take place each day Monday through Thursday, with three shows taking place on Friday and Saturday for a total of 14 showings throughout the week.
Originally billed as the Elephants and Tigers Encounter, the show had to drop the elephant title after a stoppage in the showing of the pachyderm.
While bump bidding has been a staple at the Crawford County Fair, bump bids will no longer be able to take place within the arena at the end of a sale. The Crawford County Fair Board approved only allowing bump bids at the sales office once the sale of the animal has been completed.
The Fair Board agreed with the Livestock Committee’s vote to disallow fundraising for the alpaca projects.
Dan Burtscher, Community Service Advisor at Pioneer Career and Technology Center, spoke to the Fair Board about the potential use of volunteers on the fairgrounds during the vocational school’s Community Service Day. The fair board was open to the idea, and will look for potential projects that the students could work on for their Community Service Day.
The Crawford County Fair Board approved purchasing a Case IH 35A tractor through Burkhart Farm Center for the fairgrounds. The tractor will have a loader and rear mower. The cost will be $22,000 after a trade-in of their current tractor.
The Crawford County Fair received a commendation from the Ohio State Tractor Pullers Association (OSTPA). At a banquet for the OSTPA the Crawford County Fair received a plaque recognizing their contributions to the OSTPA.
