It has been 14 years since Crawford County Council on Aging, Inc. annually held the “Crawford County Golden Years Hall of Fame,” honoring outstanding senior citizens for their distinctive service to the community.  In 1978, the first 14 Senior Citizens were inducted into the “Crawford County Golden Years Hall of Fame”, with a total of 226 Senior Citizens inducted from 1978-2001.

Letters are sent to clubs, churches and community organizations asking for nominations. The Council on Aging is thrilled to be bringing this tradition back into the community.

The names of all honorees will have their name inscribed and displayed in the entrance hall of the Senior Center recognizing the “Outstanding Senior Citizens of Crawford County.” Each honoree is also listed in a book, displaying their picture along with their submitted biographies.

The eligibility criteria to be nominated are chosen on the following:

  1. Individuals must be currently living in Crawford County and presenting the area in which they live.
  2. Must be age 60 or older
  3. Must possess distinctive service to the community; for their efforts in the past and present, while making Crawford County a better place to live.

On October 18th the Council on Aging inducted five “Outstanding Senior Citizens” into the “Crawford County Golden Years Hall of Fame”.  The program held at the Senior Center recognized; Rev. Lewis Copley of Galion, James Croneis of Bucyrus, Carol Kable of Galion, J. William (Bill) Stepro of Galion and Carl Watt of Galion.

A welcome, invocation and introduction of nominees were provided by Pastor Mike Corwin of Bucyrus United Methodist Church.  Don Wilson, Vice President of the Council on Aging Board of Directors presented the plaques and shared generous comments alongside Cassie Herschler, Executive Director of the Council on Aging.

Thank you to Etters House of Flowers, Bucyrus for providing corsages and boutonnieres for the honorees’.  Refreshments were provided by Morning Glory, Bucyrus and the items presented to the honorees’ were compliments of United Bank, Bucyrus.

The Council on Aging would like to extend great appreciation to the community for their support in recognizing and celebrating the achievements of all the “Crawford County Golden Years Hall of Fame” inductees.
