Dave Williamson described the Crawford Conversion lecture series as an “opportunity . . . to benefit from words of wisdom and humor.” Friday’s Crawford Conversation guest speaker Chris Forgy, president and general manger of the Columbus Radio Group, provided plenty of both at Bucyrus Community Hospital for the noon luncheon.
WBCO and WQEL are members of the Columbus Radio Group.
Forgy’s presentation focused on leadership and managerial skills.
“Managers get things done, leaders get people done,” Forgy said. “A leader’s job is to get people done.” He noted a manager’s job “is not to put in what God left out, but to bring out what God put in.”
Forgy’s presentation was based on three premises: first – people are born a certain way and they can’t change that; second – people have no control over the people in their relationships, they must see their values in each other; and third – people do things for their own reasons.
“Getting what you want is all about trust and nothing else,” Forgy said. He defined versatility as how hard a person was willing to work to get what they want.
Forgy then took those attending through an exercise to help them identify their own personality “neighborhood specialty,” as well as how to identify those traits in others. By doing so, leaders can better understand themselves and more importantly what motivates others with whom they have various relationships.
Jody Spiegel of United Bank of Galion shares what she took away from Friday’s Crawford Conversation.
“A lot of people that you work with or that you meet throughout your life are going to have different personalities, different communication,” Spiegel said. “You’re going to have to respect the ways that they learn and the ways they communicate with you and you have to communicate with them.”
Crawford Conversation is a program organized by the Crawford County Young Professionals The next Crawford Conversation will be in the fall.
