BUCYRUS — A Melmore man was cited with multiple charges after a crash in the 600 block of Whetstone Street on Tuesday morning.

According to a Bucyrus Police Department report, Gillis Riedel, 19, was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after crashing his vehicle into a utility pole.

He also was charged for possession of suspected acid, prescription medications, steroids and other drug-related evidence.

BUCYRUS — A single-vehicle crash shut down a city street shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday between Lions Park and the Crawford County Fairgrounds.

According to the Bucyrus Police Department Officer Jamie Carver, a man was driving southbound on Whetstone Street when he traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a utility pole and came to rest on its side.

The man suffered minor scrapes and cuts as a result of the crash.

He refused medical treatment and was transported to the Bucyrus Police Department.

The driver initially told Carver he was driving 25 miles per hour when the back end of his vehicle slid out while he was driving.

The incident remains under investigation.

Crews closed the road as active electrical lines and pieces of the pole were on the roadway.

As a tow truck from the Oceola Garage removed the vehicle from the scene, AEP Ohio arrived on scene to kill the power to the electrical lines.

The road remained closed as AEP Ohio crews work on the scene.

The City of Bucyrus and Bucyrus Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Charges will be determined at a later tie pending the results of the investigation.
