GALION — On Monday night, the Northmor board of education held their monthly meeting.
At the meeting, it was decided that should the vaccines be given to staff members on March 11, there will be no in-person schooling on March 12 in order to give staff members time to recover, should they have any adverse reactions to the second round of vaccines. March 12 will serve as an e-learning/blizzard bag day for students. The district will communicate any other official information on this matter once the time comes.
The board moved to accept the donation of Bipolar Ionization devices from MG Energy, worth 11,600 dollars.
Paul Hinze, principal/owner of MG Energy in Mansfield, Ohio, donated the units and is covering the cost of labor, too.
“Bipolar ionization naturally exists in the environment, and there is nothing that can hurt you with it. It basically breaks down the nucleus in any VOC (volatile organic compound) so any virus such as the flu, or COVID-19, mold, mildew, allergens—it just kills every bit of it,” Hinze said. “It gets put in the ductwork and it just puts out an electric positive and negative charge of these ions, which is what attacks these VOCs.”
These units have a 5-year warranty and have about a 10-year lifespan.
MG energy has installed around one thousand of these devices around the state.
Hinze said that with his children attending Northmor, the health and wellbeing of everyone in the district is one of the main reasons why he chose to donate these units to the district.
Also, the board accepted an anonymous donation of one thousand dollars to be used in the Jr/Sr High School math department.
With the district’s and the PTO’s hands being tied in the legal matter between Northmor and Mohican Outdoor Sports, in-kind donations totaling over 4,000 dollars has been collected to refund to families.
In an effort to contact those families who were affected by the situation, a letter, email, and text has been sent to those families for them to respond and let the school know if they would like to be refunded from the donations collected. As of right now, there are still thirteen families who have not responded to any of the three communication attempts made by the school.
The next school board meeting will be March 16 at 6 p.m.
