Covert Manufacturing, Inc. will receive Efficiency Smart’s Ambassador of Efficiency Award on Wednesday, August 28 at 10 a.m. at its facility located at 328 S. East Street.   The award will be presented to Covert Manufacturing in recognition of its commitment and innovation in reducing energy use, which was demonstrated by its successful implementation of energy-efficient measures at its facility in Galion, Ohio.

“Once again, Covert Manufacturing has received recognition as an exceptional Ohio employer,” said Tom O’ Leary, Mayor of the City of Galion.  “Being named an Ambassador of Energy Efficiency, Covert shines the spotlight of excellence on Galion.  They continue to be one of the city’s most valued electric customers and major employers.  Covert’s efforts towards improving its energy efficiency is a benefit to all of our electric distribution system.”

“Covert Manufacturing continues to improve its business practices as it looks to innovative opportunities,” said Joe Kleinknecht, President/CEO of the Galion – Crestline Area Chamber of Commerce. “An example is Covert’s relationship with Efficiency Smart to reduce costs and add efficiencies to improve and grow its operation.”

As a result of the project, Covert Manufacturing is expected to save 760 mega-watt hours (MWh) of energy annually, $80,700 annually, and $840,900 over the lifetime of the installed measures. Additionally, the net project cost was reduced by $28,600 with incentives from Efficiency Smart.

Covert Manufacturing worked with an Efficiency Smart energy consultant and account manager for technical project assistance and to verify savings potential. These resources were made possible through a partnership between Efficiency Smart and Galion Electric Division, designed to save its electric customers money through energy efficiency.

“Efficiency Smart helped us learn a lot about how to make better choices in energy-efficient motors and lighting,” said Kym Fox, Co-President and COO of Covert Manufacturing.  “We appreciate the additional help the City of Galion and Galion Electric Division provided to help us reduce our energy usage.  What we learned will be of tremendous value as we work toward earning the ISO 14000 environmental certification. We will definitely be on the lookout for new projects to do with Efficiency Smart in the future.”

“We are delighted to recognize Covert Manufacturing in Galion for making energy-efficient upgrades,” said Kristyn Wilder, executive director of Efficiency Smart. “The project showcases its strong vision and commitment to reducing energy use and saving money today and into the future.”

The Ambassador of Energy Efficiency Award recognizes entities that have completed substantial energy efficiency projects.
