Things are getting a little dire in the Crawford County Common Pleas courtroom, but it has nothing to do with criminal cases.

courtroom 01-07-16In anticipation of the rain that is expected to fall in the area between Friday and Sunday, employees at the courthouse had to do a quick fix Thursday to keep any more rain from falling onto the jury seats. A hole appeared in the drop ceiling above the jury seats after heavy rains hit the area last week, prompting employees to put up a makeshift funnel system to collect any leaking water.

Buckets have also long sat in the northwest corner of the courtroom, hidden by the last row of seating in the gallery to catch rainfall seeping through the roof.

Patches have been done to the roof to stem some of the worst damage as the county commissioners tried to get the ball rolling on roof project, but a complete fix still is not in the books.

Commissioners Doug Weisenauer and Jenny Vermillion confirmed Thursday that architect Bruce Heinlen of Felty-Heinlen Architects and Planners, Inc. is scheduled for a meeting on Jan. 22, though that doesn’t mean a solution will be ready to go that day.
