Although unadjusted for the season, the unemployment rate in Crawford County showed a significant change last month. Unlike the change in July, the change in August was in the right direction.
According to the report issued Tuesday morning by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services with the U.S. Department of Labor, unemployment in Crawford County went from 6.4 percent in July to 5.5 percent in August. The labor market in the county remained at 19,300 both months. However, the number of those working rose from an estimated 18,000 in July to 18,300 in August.
The number of those considered unemployed as determined by state guidelines dropped by an estimated 100.
In spite of the significant drop, the unemployment rate in Crawford County remains 0.3 (three-tenths) of a percent higher than in August of 2015.
Statewide, the unemployment was 4.7 percent. The lowest unemployment among the 88 counties was Mercer County with 3.0 percent while the highest was Monroe County which came in at 9.0 percent. Among those counties sharing a border with Crawford County, Wyandot County had the lowest rate at 3.4 percent. Huron County, 5.0 percent, was the only other county in this area with an unemployment rate at or above 5.0 percent.
