The voters in Crawford County went to the polls on Tuesday and resoundingly voted against the single county-wide issue.

The Children’s Services levy fell with 1,036 (65.53%) voters voting against the levy and 545 (34.47%) voters taking a side for the levy. If passed, the Children’s Services levy would have been a 1.5 mill, eight-year levy.

Crawford County Commissioner Doug Weisenauer spoke about what the defeat of the levy means for the county’s children’s services.

“I know people are frustrated with taxes so I am not surprised, and I understand their feelings. It is unfortunate that we have a number of kids that need care,” Weisenauer explained. “So, we are put in a hard spot between taking care of all these kids and having to ask people to help pay for it.”

“It is going to continue to be hard for us to make our budget,” Weisenauer continued. “We have to wait for the State to pass their budget to find out how much funding we will receive from the State, which that doesn’t sound good, but in another month or so we will know on that. But we will keep trying.”

Bruce Truka retained his 1st Ward seat on Bucyrus City Council over challenger Cory Tyrrell. Truka amassed 43 (63.24%) votes while Tyrrell received 24 (36.76%) votes.

All four Crawford County voters voted in favor of the Plymouth-Shiloh Local School District tax levy.
