Crawford County Treasurer Gary Cole will be using an additional method to collect tax revenue for the county and the schools. An advantage of the Tax Certificate (Tax Lien) Sale allows the treasurer to give taxpayers additional time to pay delinquent property taxes before foreclosure action is initiated.
Tax Lien Sales will normally be used only for those delinquent accounts not successfully paid with payment plans. No Tax Liens will be sold without the approval of the Treasurer, who will choose the appropriate accounts for this type of sale. It has always been the treasurer’s policy to work with each taxpayer to pay delinquent taxes with payment plans over a period of time when possible.
At a time when budgets have been shrinking, this gives the county more timely access to revenue and results in a lower delinquency rate. For example, if a tax certificate (lien) is sold, the tax payer will still have approximately 18 months to pay the delinquent taxes and the county receives the revenue immediately from the tax lien purchaser. Schools will receive their much needed revenue at an earlier time.
The Tax Certificate Sale is a tool that motivates property owners to meet their obligations. In the Tax Certificate (Tax Lien) Sale, the treasurer sells past due taxes to Tax Ease OHIO LLC and the property owner will incur up to an 18% annual interest rate. Unique to this sale, property owners will make payments to Tax Ease and not to the county treasurer. The County will approve all correspondence but will not incur the administrative expense.
