Crawford County Recorder Karen Scott is warning area property owners to be cautious of a letter being circulated by a Columbus-area company. That company, Local Records Office, offers to provide a copy of property deeds for $89.

The letter appears official with a list of the owner’s name, property address, parcel number, sales amount, transfer amount and more. All of that information is accessible from the auditor’s or recorder’s office for free. Scott says a copy of a property deed can be obtained from her office for less than $5.

Scott says the letter from Local Records Office is misleading and advises area property owners not to be taken advantage of.
