The Crawford County Commissioners approved and signed the Community Development Block Grants funding for Galion and Crestline Thursday.
The money comes from the FY2013 CDBG funds for 2014 and is distributed by the county. In previous years, communities were able to manage the funds themselves.
The county commissioners approved an agreement between Earthworm Construction of Iberia and the City of Galion for the Hetrick Drive resurfacing project. Community Development Block Grant funds in the amount of $51,000 was approved for the project.
Earthworm Construction was awarded the contract with a low bid of $60,292.15. The project will be funded by the $51,000 CDBG funds. The City of Galion will pay the remaining sum of $9,292.15.
The commissioners also approved an agreement between Bucyrus Road Materials and the Village of Crestline for the Patterson St. resurfacing project. The CDBG funds were approved for a total of $14,000 for the project.
Bucyrus Road Materials was awarded the contract with the bid of $18,374.25. That project will be paid for with $14,000 from the CDBG funds while the Crestline Street Capital Fund will supplement the rest.
Earlier in the morning, the commissioners opened bids on contract number CC08 (2014) for the chip and seal improvement of various county roads. Five bids were entered for the project, which the county engineer has estimated at $386,293.11. The target completion date for the projects is set for September 12.
The low bid for the day came from 20/20 Enterprises Inc. out of Somerset. That bid came in at $307,996.95. The highest bid for the project came from Whitta Construction of Fostoria with a bid of $372,816.20. Bids were also submitted by Bucyrus Road Materials, Earthworm Construction, and Henry W. Bergman Inc. of Genoa.
The chip and seal project would pertain to the following roads in the county:
- Beck Rd. (CR 20) from CR 330 north to SR 96
- Beechgrove Rd. (CR39) from CR 31 north to CR 78
- Locustgrove Rd. (CR 55) from CR 45 north to SR 98
- Stevens Rd. (CR 69) from SR 98 north to CR 97
- Ridgeton-Annapolis Rd. (CR8 78) from SR 4 east to SR 98
- Quaintance Rd. (CR 81) from CR 39 east to SR 98
- Johnston Rd. (CR 97) from SR 602 east to CR 69
- Cook Rd. (CR 130) from SR 98 north to CR 97
- Donnenwirth Rd. (CR 132) from New Washington corporation line north to CR 14
- Henry Cooper Rd. (CR 139) from CR 78 east to SR 602
- Cox Rd. (CR 176) from SR 602 east to CR 20
- Sandusky Center Rd. (CR 180) from SR 96 north to CR 52
