MARION—Marion City Auditor Robert Landon issued a press release this morning regarding his health and the operation of his office:

Landon has come under intense scrutiny for several serious auditing mistakes that could cost taxpayers millions in federal funding for the airport, local transit, airport expenditures, and funding for police and fire services.
Councilman-At-Large Josh Daniels told Crawford County Now he’s been quiet too long regarding Landon’s incompetent job performance.
Daniels noted that from the beginning of his term, Landon has refused to take advice from experienced workers in the office, even terminating an entire staff of award-winning employees.
Landon, who is recovering from Covid, recently posted a testimonial he gave at his church shortly after he was released from the hospital. However, Landon has yet to return to work. “He’s jerking on the heartstrings of the community for all its worth. There’s a special place in hell for the Pharisees and this guy. If that oxygen tank can go to church, it can come to the office. I hope the community does not continue to fall for it,” Daniels said.
Daniels estimates that by now, the penalties amassed against Marion have surpassed $175,000.00.
Daniels says that unless the books are balanced, Marion cannot qualify for the much-needed federal funds.
The average two worker income in Marion is $39,000.00. Because of that, Marion is in a position to qualify for many federal dollars. But without a balanced set of books, Marion is knocked out of the loop.
According to Daniels, the council has such little confidence in Landon’s numbers that they are concerned about approving expenditures.
“Landon is one person who has less competence than AOC,” Daniels said.
