BUCYRUS — The Bucyrus Fire Department will be purchasing a new fire truck after legislation was approved Thursday evening by Bucyrus City Council.
During the Health and Safety Committee meeting, Kevin Myers said the fact that the department’s engines two and three were purchased during the Ross Administration.
“The truck that is being replaced is from 1989 and the manufacturer of the two others is not even in business anymore which means it is challenging to get parts for the trucks to keep them on the road,” Myers said.
He said that the National Fire Protection Association requires fire trucks to have up-to-date equipment and must meet certain standards.
“The finance committee approved money to purchase the truck not to exceed $600,000,” he said.
Council met in a special session after the committee meetings to approve the purchase of the fire truck.
