GALION — Galion City Council voted to move various ordinance to their next readings during its regular meeting Tuesday evening.
Ordinance 2019-21 would allow the safety-service director to purchase under the state purchasing program without competitive bidding, playground equipment through Sourcewell for Heise Park.
Ordinance 2019-22 would authorize the safety-service director to advertise for bids and to enter into a contract for concrete work at Heise Park.
The ordinances were not passed with the required minimum of six votes to declare an emergency and set these ordinances into action.
The ordinances received a 5-2 vote.
Gail Baldinger and Mark Triplett voted against the issue.
The members who voted no, said they did so because the Freese Board of Directors, who would award grant money to carry out the ordinances, have not met yet to approve or deny the allocation of grant money. The council members did not want to give permission to potentially spend money when they did not know if the finances had been approved.
The ordinances moved on to a third reading to be discussed again at the next meeting April 23 at 7 p.m.
