GALION — Galion City Council voted to change utility rates during its meeting Tuesday evening.
Council passed an ordinance adopting a new electric rates schedule.
The new rate is a reduction of 1 cent per kilowatt, which is roughly a 6-percent decrease and should average $8-$10 in savings per month.
Galion Mayor Tom O’Leary said he does not think it will be something that will be changed for a few years, but it will most likely be reviewed in August to see how it fits in with the city’s financial forecast.
Also during the meeting, council passed a few housekeeping ordinances, one of which moved money around to different accounts.
An ordinance was passed allowing the safety-service director to advertise for bids for the cash-rent farming of city-owned property located at the Galion Municipal Airport.
The land is roughly 74.3 acres, and the lease would last three crop years from May 1 to December 31, 2022.
Resolution No. 2020-5 was passed as an emergency clause to get the ball rolling on the transfer of 6.882 acres within the city corporate limits from the City of Galion to the Galion Port Authority.
Council’s next meeting is March 10 at 7 p.m.
