CRESTLINE — The Crestline Police Department has a new officer after Crestline Village Council approved Mayor Joy Miley’s latest appointment to the force during council’s regular meeting Monday evening.

Chase Cooke, a Crestline native, joins the department as a part-time patrolman.

Council also approved the appointment of Amy May as a part-time janitor for the village along with several appropriations and a statement of municipal services to be provided for a proposed annexation of several acres into the village in Jackson Township.

Former council member Clayton Herold, who briefly served the village as acting mayor in 2017, announced plans for the village by the newly formed Crestline Enhancement Program that is being funded through the non-profit arm of the Community Foundation of Crawford County, Project Inc.

“Project Inc. will be our fiscal agent,” Herold said.

He said some of the group’s plans include creating a splash pad at the Crestline Pool, repairing the clock in the village that has not worked in years and purchasing hanging flower baskets for the downtown area.

“We want to work together to make Crestline better,” Herold said.

Dwayne Castle, founder of Relationally Driven in Bucyrus, came to the meeting to inform residents and council member of the mentoring program for all Crawford County students.

“We need people to volunteer 30 minutes each week to help these kids become more successful,” Castle said.

Crestline Village Administrator John Rostash said the Livingston Sanitary Sewer Extension is nearly completed and that a street resurfacing project is in the works. He said downtown improvements that have been made in the village include sidewalk leveling at the village hall and gazebo area.

“Thank you to everyone that donated to our downtown sidewalk staining project,” Rostash said.

He said the project should be completed by the Harvest Festival.

The next council meeting is Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m.
