GALION — Galion City Council had to schedule a special meeting for Friday to pass ordinances that are time sensitive after not having enough members present Tuesday.

Council, having five of the seven members present, was able to pass just one ordinance during a Tuesday evening regular meeting, and will hold a special meeting on Friday at 5 p.m. in order to pass ordinances that require immediate attention for them to meet deadlines.

The ordinance passed Tuesday, ordinance No. 2019-42 allows for Everstream Solutions LLC, an internet provider, to attach their internet fiber line to street light and utility poles. Galion falls in the company’s path to connect Cleveland to Columbus.

Ordinances 2019-52, 55, 56, and 59 were moved to be passed at the Friday when at least six council members will be present to be able to pass them with emergency clauses.

Ordinance 2019-52 is the appropriation of funds from various accounts in order to pay for various items. The main reason 2019-52 was moved to the Friday meeting is because of sections 2 and 3, which deal with appropriating funds to the airport funds in order to pay for employee’s salaries and wages and for maintenance. This needs to be done in order to close out the books for the month and not be in the red.

Ordinance 2019-55 allows for the safety service director to advertise for bids to be able to eventually install the traffic signal at SR598 and Brandt Road. The contract is to be signed Friday, so the item must be passed Friday instead of at next month’s meeting in order to proceed.

Ordinance 2019-56 entitle the safety service director to execute the necessary documents with ODOT for the bridge inspection services that happen every year.

Ordinance 2019-59 allows for the Board of Commissioners of Crawford County to use .048 acres of land as right-of-way purposes for a bridge rehabilitation project that is taking place on Hosford Road over the Olentangy River.

The special meeting Friday is in council chambers in the Galion Municipal Building.
