BUCYRUS — Bucyrus City Council met Tuesday evening and has scheduled another meeting for residents to discuss the fate of the Pines Reservoir.

Council President Sis Love said council wants to hear more from Bucyrus attorney Pat Murphy regarding his interest in taking over the property and its costly repairs.

The meeting will be Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. in council chambers at Bucyrus City Hall and is open to the public.

Bucyrus Mayor Jeff Reser said another Bratwurst Festival is in the books for the city and by all accounts, was a fantastic event.

“We are proud to partner with the Bratwurst Festival,” Reser said. “This was one of my first intentions as mayor and I thank the city council for supporting the festival. It belongs to all of us and we take pride in our festival and community.”

City Law Director Rob Ratliff issued a campaign sign courtesy notice to council members, reminding them of the rules set forth by the city.

“Although signs concerning candidates for elective office or public issues do not require a permit, they are still subject to the provisions of Chapter 1911 of the Bucyrus Codified Ordinances,” Ratliff said.

The rules include that banners less than 20 square feet are permitted.

Bucyrus resident and city council president candidate Kurt Fankhauser said that, during the primary campaign, he was permitted to have banners around town that were larger than 20 square feet.

“No one said anything to me about their size so why now is this being enforced,” Fankhauser asked.

Council members voted to put the issue back into the platting committee for further consideration. The issue will be discussed during the council’s joint committee meeting Thursday at 6 p.m.

Five pieces of legislation were approved by council, including appropriations, the state tax collection contract, authorization to pay a purchase order to Kokosing Construction, the Group A sewer project bid and a resolution to appoint council members Doug Foght and Bruce Truka to the Citywide Community Reinvestment Area Housing Council for three-year terms.

Council member Dan Wirebaugh asked Reser for the status of pool passes that residents were unable to use this season due to the closure of the Aumiller Park Pool for repairs.

Reser said pool passes will be honored next summer.

The next council meeting is Sept. 3 at 7 p.m.
