BUCYRUS―Bucyrus High School student Todd Spurlock is the first BCS student to qualify for the state championship in bowling and was honored by Mayor Jeff Reser during the Bucyrus City Council meeting Tuesday evening,
Spurlock, along with his mother, Carrie Young, and coach Diane Kaple, was presented a certificate by Reser.
“We are very proud of Todd and his accomplishment,” Reser said.
Also, during the meeting, Bucyrus Police Chief David Koepke gave his quarterly report to council.
Koepke said, that while crime is down, meth is making a comeback in the area. He said the Mexican cartel has been involved in drugs throughout the county for several years.
“Our officers of the Special Response Team are trained to deal with these types of individuals,” Koepke said.
Koepke credits the grassroots efforts of local organizations, including the department’s Operation Hope, along with tough judges in the decrease of overdose deaths throughout the county.
Council passed legislation to allow street closures for the annual car show, sponsored by the police department, on June 8 and for a zoning variance notification protocol which will include signage in the yards of properties requesting the variance.
The council’s joint committee meeting is Thursday at 6 p.m. and the next regular council meeting is April 16 at 7 p.m.
