CRESTLINE — Crestline Village Council met in-person for its regular meeting Monday evening at Crestline Village Hall.

Mayor Linda Horning Pitt reminded residents to complete the U.S. Census to be counted and to assist Crestline’s future funding opportunities and to watch for the upcoming parade designed to honor Crestline High School 2020 graduates.

The Senior 2020 Celebration Parade and Drive-In Graduation will begin May 29 at Kelly Park at 6 p.m., winding its way through the village before ending at the high school for a drive-in graduation ceremony.

Village Administrator John Rostash said it is full steam ahead for the village administration and the different departments.

“Everyone is working hard for our community,” Rostash said. “During the shut-down, we have been busy making adjustments to our workflow to become even more efficient and give you our best customer service.”

He said phase one of the Main Street waterline is now complete.

“Makeever and Associates has the plans drawn for phase two,” Rostash said. “The next phase will begin at Seltzer Street, go west under the railroad tracks and end at Countyline Road. We are working with the Great Lakes Community Action Partnership to secure funding for the next phase.”

He said two fire hydrants on Thoman Street recently have been replaced and the latest Crestline Consumer Confidence Water Report now is available on the village website at https://crestlineoh.com/2019crestlineccr. He said the village had no violations for the 2019 reporting period.

Rostash said he is working with the state on plans for the 2020 summer pool season.

“We are awaiting guidance from the Ohio Department of Health and the Crawford County Health District for public swimming pool operations for the 2020 summer pool season,” he said. “Once the guidance has been issued, we will meet with the Parks, Playground and Recreation Committee Chair Beverly Payne to discuss our options for this year.”

An upcoming paving project will be completed by Bucyrus Road Materials and will include Wiley Street from Bucyrus Street to the railroad tracks along with the 100 block of East Bucyrus Street.

“We have also begun a street sign replacement program and will begin immediately replacing old, deteriorated street signs,” Rostash said. “Also, the service department will be around to pick up any brush you have piled at the curb. The compost facility in now open on the second and forth Saturdays of each month from 8 a.m. until noon.”

Rostash said vacant properties currently are being registered and letters are being sent to property owners who are in violation of property maintenance codes.

“We have made some changes to our letters and workflow that is allowing us to issue violation notices faster. Last week we issued 26 letters,” Rostash said. “121 S. Washington St. was condemned and ordered for demolition last week. The owner was given 30 days to comply or face prosecution of up to 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. Next week, we will be issuing many more violation letters.”

During the meeting, council approved the mayor’s appointment of Frederick Rosch as a part-time Crestline Police Department officer as an emergency.

Council’s next meeting is June 1 at 6:30 p.m.
