GALION — At Tuesday’s Galion City Council meeting, the big topic of the night was money.

Terry Gribble, executive director of the Galion Area YMCA, gave his summer-end report on the city’s splash park and Heise Park pool.

Gribble said attendance was down for both facilities mainly due to the weather. He questioned whether the city would consider charging a slight fee for admittance to the splash park to make up some of the difference.

Mayor Tom O’Leary said the topic had been discussed before and was met with significant resistance from council members. He also said there would be some payoff of debts for the park soon, and the difference between 2017 and 2018 was minor enough to not warrant serious consideration.

In other council business, two ordinances were quickly passed on the final reading.

The first paid for gasoline for the various city departments.

The second moved money for overtime for the police department for DUI enforcement and moved $54,000 that will be used to fix Portland Way South and also replace concrete in alleys along Harding Way in the Uptowne area.

The final item of business was a resolution regarding the tax rates for the city as determined by the Budget Commission of Crawford County. City Auditor Brian Treisch said there would be no changes of significance in taxes for the coming year. The resolution was moved to its final reading and passed unanimously.
