GALION — Galion City Council approved a variety of ordinances during its regular meeting Tuesday evening.
Council members passed ordinance 2019-33 in an emergency clause that allows the city to enter into a Community Reinvestment Area agreement (CRA) and School Compensation agreement with Five Galion, LLC, Galion City Schools, and Pioneer Career and Technology Center.
This allows for investment in real improvement properties on the two parcels next to Arby’s and East of Chicago where there will be apartment complexes going up.
Five Galion, LLC is looking to build apartments that will feature 36 living units, and depending on the success of those units, build more to have 92 living units in total.
Council also passed two other ordinances, 2019-34 and 35, with emergency clauses to apply for and accept a grant of FY 2018 to install runway, taxiway, and guidance signage to improve the Galion Municipal Airport, and to be able to advertise for bids and enter into a contract with the lowest bidder to carry out the changes to the airport.
The next ordinance to be passed with an emergency clause was ordinance 2019-31, which will allow for the issuance and sale of notes in the maximum aggregate principal amount of $2,845,390 which will acquire a fire truck for the city, and improve the city’s sewer treatment plant by acquiring screw pump equipment, improve and upgrade the city’s electric distribution system by replacing lines, poles, conductors, insulators, transformers, and other auxiliary equipment.
The ordinance also allows improving and upgrading Portland Way North by replacing roadway and sanitary sewers, improving the city’s sanitary sewer system by constructing a lift station along Ohio 61, and construction around Brandt Road area which will add 1,000 lineal feet of new roadway between Ohio 598 and Keller Drive, the widening of approximately 925 lineal feet of roadway along Ohio 598 which will create a turn lane and add storm water drainage systems.
