BUCYRUS—Cooler weather is creeping in and that means it is time for some spooky fun. The Crawford County Council on Aging (COA) is offering some Halloween-themed fun for seniors in October.

“We usually just have our larger events and parties at our building in Bucyrus, but I’ve been trying to make activities more accessible to seniors across the county,” said COA activities coordinator Courtney Moody. “For October I went a little crazy and planned four Halloween parties. Thanks to MediGold, who is sponsoring all four parties, I’m able to provide food and prizes to seniors in Bucyrus, Crestline, Galion, and New Washington.”

Each Halloween party features food and bingo. The parties in Bucyrus, Crestline, and Galion also feature a costume contest with prizes. The Galion party includes a ghost walk at Brownella Cottage after bingo.

“Seniors may choose to attend any of the parties, but I’m asking them to only attend one so everyone has a chance to participate and attend,” Moody said.

The Bucyrus party is planned from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 21; Galion is 1 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 26; Crestline is 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 27, and New Washington is 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 29.

Other Halloween fun planned at the senior center at 200 S. Spring St. includes making a Halloween garland at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 13, creating an edible graham cracker haunted house at 1 p.m. Oct. 18 and painting small pumpkins at 1 p.m. Oct. 19.

Moody has also planned a Trick-or-Treat Senior Resource Fair from 1 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 22. The fair will feature organizations that offer products and services for seniors. Each table will have something to hand out to seniors. Weather permitting, some local businesses will be set up in the parking lot for a senior trunk-or-treat.

“This is a way for seniors to still partake in some Halloween fun and for businesses to reach their senior consumers. Plus, who doesn’t love free candy?” Moody said.

Also on the calendar for October is a Euchre-playing group, movie days, scrapbooking, Senior Walking Club, chair yoga, and a crochet circle.
