BUCYRUS—The Crawford County Council on Aging is gearing up for a sweet April with two fundraising events that are sure to satisfy any sweet tooth.

Starting from now until April 26, the Council on Aging staff will be taking orders for Der Dutchman pies. A variety of pies are available for sale, including fruit, no-sugar-added, cream, and pecan. Most pies are priced at $16.50, while pecan pies are available for $17.50. All proceeds from the pie sale will benefit the senior activities program.

According to Courtney Moody, activities coordinator at the Council on Aging, the pies are fresh from Der Dutchman and require no baking. The pies may be picked up between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on May 12 at the Council on Aging located at 200 S. Spring St.

In addition to the pie sale, the Council on Aging will also have its 2nd Annual Easter bake sale on April 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the lobby. Most items cost a donation, and proceeds will go towards purchasing necessary equipment and supplies for upcoming activities.

To sweeten the deal even further, the Council on Aging is offering a special dessert buffet exclusively for seniors who attend their congregate lunches in Bucyrus and Galion. Seniors who attend the lunch on April 11 in Galion and April 12 in Bucyrus will be invited to stay after lunch for the dessert buffet, which is free of charge.

To participate, seniors must be age 60 or older and call to reserve their meal at least one day in advance. Lunch is served promptly at 11:30 a.m. at the senior center in Bucyrus and at Historic Grace Church in Galion.

Aside from the sweet treats, the Council on Aging has a full schedule of activities for seniors in April, including chair exercises on Mondays, cardio classes on Fridays, painting class sessions on April 13, movies on April 14, 21, and 28, and bingo and ice cream social on April 20, sponsored by ProMedica. A gardening event is also scheduled for April 27.

Moody said that something new this month is their Premium Movie Monday, where they will show a film that came out in theaters in February about four senior women who go on a wild trip to see Tom Brady play in the Super Bowl. Premium Movies are free for members, while non-members are asked for a $4 donation.

Senior activities in Crestline take place on Tuesdays at the Crestline Community Center. Upcoming activities include the senior social club on April 11, ice cream social and bingo on April 18, sponsored by Devoted Health, and gardening on April 25.

Seniors who are interested in attending any of the activities are encouraged to register in advance by calling Moody at 419-562-3050 option 4. The COA activities are open to senior citizens ages 55 and older.

The Crawford County Council on Aging is a private non-profit agency that has been serving senior citizens since 1974.
