CRESTLINE — The Village of Crestline now has two more part-time firefighters after Crestline Village Council approved Mayor Joy Miley’s appointments during the regular meeting Monday evening.
Samuel D. Edwards and full-time police officer Richard Liptak will work as firefighters and both have certifications to provide emergency medical services to residents also.
“I look forward to serving the residents of Crestline,” Edwards said while Liptak assured council he will be able to fulfill both his roles as firefighter and police officer.
Also during the meeting, village Administrator John Rostash said things are moving along with several ongoing projects in the village.
“Prime AE Group has completed a draft of the bid documents for the Park Road Pump Station Grit Trap and Screed for the wastewater treatment plant and collection system improvement project,” Rostash said.
He said Makeever and Associates have finished a review of bids received for the Main Street Waterline Replace Phase One and suggested that the bid be awarded to Buckeye Excavating.
“They have assured us that Buckeye is the lowest and best bidder,” Rostash said.
Rostash also wants to remind residents that fall leaf clean-up is underway.
“Please have our leaves raked to the curb but not in the street,” Rostash said.
He said residents also may take their leaves and yard waste to the village compost facility, located at the intersection of East Bucyrus Street and St. James Street.
Amber Wertman, executive director of United Way of North Central Ohio, said she and others are working with Rostash to renovate and develop the former Golden Age Center building to the Crestline Community Center.
“There is a lot of momentum in Crestline,” Wertman said. “We have about $25,000 each year for programming that will benefit Crestline residents of all ages.”
She said the money for programming comes from donations made to United Way each year by businesses, individuals and organizations.
She said some programming in the works include a congregate lunch site for seniors and a Music, Movement and More program for children.
Council member Bev Payne said there will be a Candidate’s Night for people running for village offices, including the position of mayor, on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m.
The next council meeting is Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m.
