BUCYRUS ― Bucyrus resident Bill Stuckert is pleased with the recent road work in his neighborhood and let the Bucyrus City Council know about it during the regular meeting Tuesday evening.
The North Spring Street resident said city workers are doing a tremendous job in repaving the city streets.
“Thank you to the city for the repaving work and thank you to the voters that passed the street levy that is allowing it to happen,” Stuckert said.
Mayor Jeff Reser said he recently met with Justin Butcher and the staff at GE Lighting in Bucyrus.
“They are working hard to make sure the Bucyrus plant is a long-term provider of lighting to consumers, continuing a long tradition in Bucyrus,” Reser said. “I was impressed with the strategy to ensure long-term success.”
Reser also paid tribute to his friend and long-time classmate, Pastor Bernie France, who recently passed away.
“Bernie was a good example of the power of grace and redemption. He was able to turn his life around, with the help of God’s grace, to a life of focusing on the needs of others and his community will miss him. Our condolences to his family, friends and parishioners,” Reser said.
Reser read a report from city service safety director Jeff Wagner.
“We would like to thank all of the voters for seeing the importance of the levy and for helping to pass the street levy,” Reser said.
All non-emergency city offices will be closed on Monday for Memorial Day and residents that normally put their garbage out for Monday pick-up should put their garbage out by 7 a.m. on Tuesday instead.
Reser said the opening of Aumiller Park Pool has been delayed due to issues workers have encountered while renovating the pool.
“We are hoping to have the pool open by the third week of June. We will keep everyone posted,” Reser said.
Several pieces of legislation were passed by council, including ordinances to make minor changes to employee manpower and to approve the bond anticipation note for the pool repairs.
Resolutions were passed to allow ODOT to pave Ohio 19 to Quaker Road, a land donation at Aumiller Park, the next phase of the Whetstone and East Mansfield Street sewer project, a traffic signal at Marion Road and Beal Avenue, the bike path and Arrowhead project bids and a bid for the city’s concrete pile.
The Joint Council Committee Meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday while the next regular council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on June 4.
