CRESTLINE — Joy Miley presided over the first regular Crestline Village Council meeting since becoming mayor of the village a little more than a week ago.
As council president, Miley automatically was moved into the position of mayor when Allen Moore resigned after a video tape of him using racial slurs was released to the public.
Galion resident Mark Schulz addressed the council about a bill he recently received for the mowing of several rental properties he owns within the village.
“I am not paying $2,000,” Schulz said.
Schulz said he mowed the lawns every two weeks throughout the summer, yet he was charged $75 per hour with a minimum amount of two hours each time.
“It didn’t happen,” Schultz said.
Crestline Village Administrator John Rostash said he talked with the superintendent and the billed amount is correct.
Schulz said it is not.
“Maybe the workers told him that, but the lawns were not mowed that many times,” Schulz said. “I was there and did the mowing myself.”
Rostash said changes need to be made to the notifications process when lawns are overgrown.
“We should notify the property owners sooner,” Rostash said.
No legislation was considered for approval at the meeting.
Council member Allen Laferty made a motion to excuse fellow council member Bev Payne from a meeting Sept. 17. Council unanimously approve to excuse her.
The next council meeting is Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Crestline Village Administration Building and is open to the public.
