TIRO — Recreation opportunities for village residents was the topic of discussion for Tiro Village Council on Wednesday evening.

Council read a resolution, which allows it to purchase a lot at 215 North Main Street to turn into a park at no cost to the village, other than transfer costs. Council hopes the lot will be turned into a playground, but at this time council members do not know what kind of equipment will be purchased to put on it.

During the meeting, council also discussed potentially filling in the mud volleyball pits with water to create an ice rink for the village’s residents this winter.

Council members discussed setting up certain hours that the rink potentially would be open and discussed making it known that if residents choose to skate on the ice, they are doing so at their own risk.

The issue was not decided upon yet, as council members must talk to the trustees and insurance company to discuss liability and whether they may go forward with it.

Council’s next meeting is Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.
