GALION — Galion City Council focused on two ordinances during its meeting Tuesday evening.
Council read ordinance 2019-6, which will allow the Galion Fire Chief Phil Jackson to apply for a grant from FEMA and DHS under the Fire Prevention and Safety Grant program.
The grant for $25,000 would help with fire extinguisher training for local residents.
Jackson applied for the grant in December, so council declared it an emergency and waived the rules on having second and third readings, in order for the approval to go through before the grant’s deadline.
The second reading was of ordinance 2019-5, which states that an area in the southeast quadrant of Galion, specifically the area between Murray St. and Ohio 19 and Smith St. to Dawsett Ave., will change from a mobile home residential zoning district to a single-family residential zoning district.
Any mobile homes already in the zone would be grandfathered in and allowed to stay, but if the units are moved for any reason, including being subject to a fire, there no longer will be a mobile home allowed on that property.
Council’s next meeting is Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.
