GALION — Galion City Council discussed two ordinances during its regular meeting Tuesday evening.
One ordinance discussed would allocate $20,000 to the mayor’s fund for the purchase of land just east and adjacent of city hall on Harding Way.
Galion Mayor Tom O’Leary said the raw land and buildings would be purchased for additional parking for city hall and other possible development.
Council tabled the ordinance and will revisit the issue at a later time.
Another ordinance, this one passed by council, allowed the safety-service director to apply for a grant that would enable the city to purchase 10 sets of body armor vests for police officers.
The city would be responsible for 20 percent of the armor’s costs.
O’Leary also discussed the start of demolition of the former Neff’s grocery store building.
The property currently is owned by Community Action and O’Leary said he was pleased to see what had become a blight in the city get cleaned up.
He said since the property is now zoned as residential, it is possible the land may be used for construction of new homes.
