CRESTLINE — There is a new face on the Crestline Police Department and a part-time officer has been approved to become a full-time officer on the force.
Crestline Village Council approved Mayor Joy Miley’s appointments of part-time officer Chase Cooke to a full-time position and Devon Wireman to a part-time officer position.
In his report to council, Village Administrator John Rostash said the Main Street Waterline Project Phase One is underway.
“Buckeye Excavating will begin replacement of the Main Street waterline on Monday, Nov. 25,” Rostash said. “The project area is from the middle of the intersection of Wiley Street through the intersection of Seltzer Street. Two-way traffic will be maintained during the project on Main Street and some cross streets will need to be closed during the project.”
He said the community will be kept informed through the village website and the village’s Facebook page.
Rostash said Property Maintenance Code Enforcement also is underway in the village.
“The owner of Law the Florist property was contacted and told that the community is frustrated with the condition of the property. He was also informed that we want to work with businesses for economic development, however, we need to balance development with the quality of life of our residential neighborhoods and if no progress takes place on the property soon, we will have to condemn the property and issue property maintenance violations,” Rostash said. “The owner said he will be up this weekend to secure the brick building and make the property more presentable.”
The Crestline Service Department will continue to gather leaves until the job is done. If residents would like to take leaves and yard waste to the village compost facility, it will be open on Saturday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Dec. 14 from 8 a.m. until noon. The compost facility will close for the season after Dec. 14.
Rostash said the Crawford County Red Cross team attended the council meeting to show their support for keeping the office within the Crestline Community Center.
“I am working with the National Red Cross on an extension of the lease,” Rostash said. “Provided it passes legal review in time, I plan to submit legislation to council at the next meeting.”
Rostash said Crestline Winterfest is Nov. 23.
“Seltzer Street will be closed from Main Street to Bucyrus Street between 3 and 6 p.m. for the Fourth Annual Crestline Winterfest hosted by the Crestline Community Development Team,” Rostash said.
Rostash said he is feeling thankful this holiday season.
“In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I would like to thank the community of Crestline for their warm welcome to me and my wife Sandra and for all their support this past year. Also, I would like to thank the Council for their support and guidance,” Rostash said. “Finally, I would like to thank our Village of Crestline Team members for making customer service their priority. Together we have had a tremendous year.”
Council’s next meeting is Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the village hall.
