NORTH ROBINSON — Ron Cook made his way from Littlestown, Pennsylvania, to Colonel Crawford School on Thursday to pick up his 1962 Corvette.

Cook began purchasing tickets for the annual Colonel Crawford Athletic Boosters Corvette Raffle about eight years ago and normally buys $100 worth of tickets.

“I think I first read about the raffle online. I have always bought the five tickets for $100 because the money goes to the school but this year, for some reason, I decided to scale back and purchase one ticket,” Cook said.

One ticket is all it took for him to become the winner of the little red Corvette.

“I always wanted a Corvette with coves and this one has them,” Cook said as he pointed to the portion of the car on each door that is white. “The original owner had the coves painted.”

Mark Teynor of the Colonel Crawford Athletic Boosters said the group has been hosting the raffle for 18 years.

“We have spent about $1 million on Corvettes and put about the same amount into the school,” Teynor said.

Teynor said the money raised has been used for many projects at the school, including the construction of a building at the girls’ softball field, a weight room and locker facility and an all-weather track.

According to booster club member Kent Rachel, this year’s money raised will be used to construct a press box on the visitor’s side of the football field.

“And we are getting estimates for a batting cage and we recently re-did the football field,” Rachel said.

Superintendent Todd Martin said the work done by the booster club is tremendous.

“Their contribution is close to $100,000 a year with buildings and facility improvements. Their effort is has been tremendous,” Martin said. “If you walk around the facility, a lot of it is due to the work they have done.”

Cook said he is excited to show his wife their new car.

“I am making arrangements with Mark to get it back east,” Cook said.

The next raffle kicks off in June and tickets will be $25 each or five for $100. The winner is chosen each year in the spring.
