It was fun, games, and comics across the United States on Saturday with the first annual In-Store Convention Kickoff.

MB Subculture took part in the event with a live stream of panels representing most of the big players in the comic book world including Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and Dynamite.

While the stream was playing live throughout the day other activities took place at MB Subculture including a Batman vs. Superman coloring contest, a costume contest, games, and door prizes. Also on hand were Cody McGlothlin and Amber Gersternberger of Code Red Custom FX Masks, Make-Up, Art, and More. McGlothlin explained that he along with Gersternberger were at the In-Store Convention Kickoff to sell some of their artwork.

Cody, and Amber“I do latex masks; I just recently started making them out of burlap as well. I think they have neat look when they are made like that,” McGlothlin said. “The artwork is baby doll artwork, it’s kind of creepy. She did the mannequins and painted the cow skull.”

McGlothlin, who will next be at the Midwest Haunted Convention in Columbus in June, explained how he got started doing makeup and masks.

“I do masks and make-up as well,” McGlothlin said. “I got my start at the Mansfield Reformatory’s haunt in 2004. I learned some stuff off of youtube and doing it on my own.”

The costume contest featured Shyloh Gerstenberger as Harley Quinn, and Aaron Gersternberger as Captain. Spaulding. Shyloh took top prize in the contest.

The event was used as a way to kick off the comic and horror convention season across the country. MB Subculture will take part at the Horror Hound Convention in Cincinnati March 18-20.
