Press release
The fourth annual BBQ Benefit and “Concert on the Green” for the Alpha Recovery 12 Step Program will again take place “Rain or Shine” under the “Big Top” on the campus of Woodlawn United Methodist Church. Serving at this year’s Benefit will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 3. The Woodlawn United Methodist Church campus is located 1675 Hopley Ave., Bucyrus.
All proceeds from the BBQ and concert fundraiser will benefit the Alpha Recovery 12 Step Program, a non-denominational Christian based program working to successfully reintegrate individuals recovering from drug or alcohol addiction into a new life of honesty and stability through a new faith in Jesus Christ and diverting them from a life of defeat and hopelessness. Last year’s event saw over 700 people enjoying this signature event for the entire community. The first three benefits raised a total of over $26,000 for Alpha Recovery programming and helped with the creation and development of Jericho House, a community recovery residence.
Additional information about the 12 Step Program is available at Alpha Recovery’s website: www.alpha12step.com or by contacting Alpha representative Margie Maddox at 419-689-1412.
This year’s entertainment will feature the popular Bucyrus and Crawford County men’s chorus, known as United In Harmony which began approximately 7 years ago as a quartet . . . Today UIH consists of 22 men who “just like to get together to sing” and are under the direction of George Gibbs, assistant director Sam Eichhorn and further assisted by Chris Quinn and pianist Marcia Burkhart.
United In Harmony’s concentration is men’s four part harmony. Acting as musical goodwill ambassadors for Bucyrus and Crawford County its members come from all walks of life.
UIH’s wide musical repertoire includes patriotic numbers, Broadway and music show tunes, sacred, spiritual, classic pop, light rock, “do-opp”, western and contemporary musical numbers. UIH grew out of the enjoyment of singing, and sharing with others, men’s four-part harmony. UIH’s unwritten Mission is to make the group available to schools, churches, civic groups, veteran’s organization, charitable fund raisers, assisted living and medical providers and the like to leverage our collective community resources and talents to improve the general well-being of the area’s social and cultural environment.
UIH has appeared in many venues including multiple appearances at: the Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival; assisted living facilities in Bucyrus, Galion and Upper Sandusky; various fund raisers and celebrations for churches and service clubs, multiple times for The Concerts at Millennium Park Mural and Concert in the Park series in Bucyrus and Galion; Chamber of Commerce’s annual Christmas Candle Light Luminaries Night; Class Reunions; American Legion Fund Raisers; events at the Crawford County Fair; during the summer months various church denominations; “Mansfield Rehab Telethon Fundraiser”; performing the National Anthem at various local high school basketball games, Nick Vogt 5K fundraiser in Crestline and opening for the Crawford County Community Concert Association’s US Army Jazz Band Concert. In addition, UIH has performed the National Anthem for the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Cavaliers and the Columbus Clippers organizations.
Although not sponsored by the church, United In Harmony is grateful to be able to practice at the Bucyrus United Methodist Church and has received other aid from the church and the Community Foundation for Crawford County in recognition of the wide ranging social and cultural support and venues in which United In Harmony appears.
Chairperson Phyllis Crall stated that anyone who loves men’s harmony will love this special group of singers . . . concert will begin at 6 p.m.
This year’s BBQ Benefit on the Green will again be under a huge “circus like tent” and will also feature a “Jericho-Chinese Auction” of various items donated by area business supporters.
