BUCYRUS―The completion of the Community Unity Mural, located on South Walnut Street near Hopley Avenue, was commemorated with a ceremony on Thursday evening.
The mural features Brattie and the mascots of all three schools involved which include Wynford, Bucyrus and Colonel Crawford. It was painted on the city-owned building that is used for storage by local art students under the direction of their art teachers. They include students Shelbee Linn, Alexis Pival, Ciera Pfeifer, Autumn Pilo, Yzzy Wurm and Samantha Durham. Art teachers include Michael Striker, Zac Bauer and Erin Duffy.

Durham said she was the only student from Wynford High School to work on the project.
“It was so much fun and I really enjoyed meeting the students from the other schools,” Durham said.
Bucyrus Mayor Jeff Reser recognized those that were involved during the ceremony with certificates of appreciation.
“I want to thank all of them for their hard work and creativity,” Reser said. “This was truly a team effort. Unity is crucial to the success of a small town like Bucyrus.”
Reser said the idea for the mural was the brainchild of City of Bucyrus administrative assistant, Kelli Patterson.
Also recognized were the civic organizations that helped fund the project which includes the VFW Post 1078, the Bucyrus Kiwanis, the Bucyrus Rotary Club, the Bratwurst Festival and the Bucyrus Lion’s Club.
State Representative Riordan McClain participated in the event and presented a commemoration for the city by the state of Ohio for the project.
Reser said that world-renown artist, Eric Grohe, was a consultant on the project. He is the artist that created the other murals around town including Liberty Remembers on North Sandusky Avenue and the Great American Crossroad mural on Washington Square.
“We thank him for his advice on how to prepare and paint this mural,” Reser said.
Reser also thanked local paint stores, Clady’s Wallpaper and Paint and Sherwin-Williams, for their help and supplies, Vasil’s for the donor medallions, A-1 Printing for the mural description sign that is on the door of the building and city employee Jeff Dunn and his crews for their help in preparing the building.
“I also want to thank the citizens of Bucyrus for helping make our city such a wonderful place to live and raise a family,” said Reser.
