BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Oakwood Cemetery, a significant green space and cemetery in Bucyrus, is reminding everyone that it operates as a non-profit organization, not a city-run entity. This clarification comes amidst what cemetery officials describe as a long-standing misconception.

Valerie, a representative for Oakwood Cemetery, emphasized the cemetery’s non-profit status during a recent community spotlight interview. “We are strictly a non-profit organization,” she stated, noting that the cemetery is tax-exempt.

Beyond its primary function as a cemetery, Oakwood Cemetery serves as a vital green space for the Bucyrus community. Residents are encouraged to use the grounds for activities like biking and walking. “People are out there riding bikes and walking, which we welcome every day,” Valerie said.

The cemetery also encourages donations of trees to replace deteriorating older ones, some of which are as old as the cemetery itself. These donations can be dedicated to loved ones, offering a unique way to honor their memory.

The cemetery prides itself on its well-maintained grounds, overseen by a full-time staff. “We really go out of our way to try to keep the grounds as beautiful and maintained as possible,” Valerie noted.

Currently, Oakwood Cemetery is running a lot sale through June 30. During this period, purchasing one lot makes the second lot half price. Individuals interested in this offer are encouraged to contact the office or stop by.

Donations to the non-profit organization are always welcomed and appreciated.
