BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—As spring approaches, the Crawford County Council on Aging is gearing up for a month full of exciting activities and events for local seniors. Courtney Moody, a representative from the Council, shared the upcoming plans during a recent community interview.

“We have all kinds of great things going on,” Moody said. “Our Mardi Gras social on March 4th is a members-only activity, a perk of being one of our paid members. Altacare and Gentiva are helping out, and we’ll have hot dogs, desserts, and mask and hat decorating.”

The Council is also hosting a St. Patrick’s Day social on March 17th, open to any senior aged 55 and up. “We’ll be serving potato soup for a donation, with desserts and door prizes provided by Ohioans Home Healthcare,” Moody explained. “I’ve been working on some fun paper crafts, like leprechaun magnets and shamrock pins.”

In addition to social events, the Council is offering educational opportunities. The first week of March is National Consumer Protection Week, and the Council has planned two activities. On March 6th, the Office of the Ohio Consumers Council will speak on avoiding utility scams and reducing unwanted solicitations. The following day, March 7th, will feature “Fraud Bingo,” an educational game hosted by Pro Seniors and Senior Medicare Patrol.

Regular bingo sessions are also scheduled, with events in Bucyrus and Crestline. “We always have a regular bingo here in Bucyrus at our Senior Center on March 27th, with prizes provided by Centerwell Home Health and Gentiva,” Moody said. “In Crestline, we have dementia bingo with the Alzheimer’s Association on March 11th and regular bingo on March 18th at the VFW.”

The Council’s lunch program continues to be a popular offering, with meals served Monday through Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the First United Church of Christ in Galion and at the Council’s building in Bucyrus. “It’s a great group of people, and there’s a suggested donation of $4.00,” Moody noted. “You just have to be 60 or older, a resident of Crawford County, and let us know you’re coming at least a day in advance.”
